Welcome to the official website for the USAFA Northern Illinois Parents Club!

Having a cadet at the Academy is challenging for the Cadets and their families.  This club is dedicated to the support of our Cadets and their families.  Anyone residing in Northern Illinois with a Cadet candidate, Cadet or graduate of the United States Air Force Academy is eligible for membership in the USAFA Northern Illinois Parents Club.

God Bless our Military who are currently protecting our Country and our Freedom.

 Thank you.

For those who have served we thank you also.  For those who never returned and are "Forever Young" we honor your ultimate sacrifice as we celebrate the 4th of July.

AIR FARES TO COLORADO SPRINGS

& DENVER

There is a website, Air Fare Watchdog, which alerts me to deals on airfare from Chicago.  Flying to The Springs can be high but here's a deal that seems to be very good.   Check it out and see if it works for your schedule:  Colorado Springs Airfare Special

Southwest is also having a special of $178 RT to Denver.  SWA Denver Airfare

2008 DOOLIE PICNIC

HOSTED BY BRUCE & TERRI LANPHEAR

What started with questionable weather and a brief 5 minute rain shower, ended with 50 NIPC members, clear skies, a great meeting, tasty food and a fly-over by 3 F-15s directly over the meeting.  Wow, it was cool.  We all know that Terri is one Energizer bunny and we all thanked her for making the arrangements for the flyover.  We don't know if she actually did, but she'll get credit forever.  What a way to end.  Perfect.

All classes were represented plus Alumni.  It started with some time to talk and get to now each other, then the meeting was called to order and Mary & Scott Schemenaur talked about what the 2012 parents should expect with the Doolie Day Out phone call on Sunday, July 13.  Then we ate a delicious meal of BBQ chicken, beef sandwiches, pasta, salads, deserts, an Air Force logo cake and soda to enjoy.

The Lanphear's have a beautiful house, with acres of land, a swimming pool with a pool house.  The pool house had a TV and the Cub fans were watching the Cubs go into the 9th leading the Giants 7-2 only to have the bullpen let it get tied.

For your enjoyment there are many pictures of the event under the Meeting Recap section.  So enjoy.  The turnout was huge, the enthusiasm was high and the interaction amongst the parents was great.

We had the opportunity for Firstie Branden Lynam (CS5) and Brendan Lanphear (CS20) there to answer questions.  That was a special opportunity to hear the answers from Brendan as he explained from a recent 4-dig perspective what it was like and then Firstie Branden added his upperclassman perspective and how the upperclassman really want the  4-digs to succeed.

NOTE:  There will be 2 big events for your first year Cadet.  The first is the Acceptance parade on August, 6th and the second is Recognition in March, 2009, when the 4-digs are recognized as upperclassman and they have earned the privileges of an upperclassman.  You cannot attend Recognition, but you can attend the Acceptance Parade.  Do EVERYTHING you can to attend this.  You will have only 2 hours with your Cadet, but it will revitalize them as they just ended Beast 2 in Jack's Valley and are ready to start classes.  There will be a separate section on the Acceptance Parade.

Now, for the pics:

The perfect place for the meeting.  This was at the beginning.  Eventually 50 people enjoyed the hospitality of the meeting.  Thanks to all involved, Bruce & Terri Lanphear, Scott & Mary Schemenaur, Ken & Karen Olsowski and all the others.

Why are Past Presidents Joe and Pat Budzyn smiling?  Because as Past Presidents they just come and enjoy; no organizing !!  Yahoo.

Current Presidents Scott & Mary Schemenaur getting ready to start what proved to be a very good and fun event.  Scott retired on Friday, July 11 from AT&T after 32 years.  Looks like he is really going to enjoy the future.

Host Teri Lanphear is glad to have Brendan back home and here she is holding onto his shoulders.  He just got home from Combat Survival Training along with fellow NIPC Cadets Joel Primm and Jacek Muka.  After eating rabbit while on CST, Brendan loved the food and explained that during CST he lived on 450 calories a day.

This is the cake we enjoyed.  Kinda a shame destroying such a work of art, but cake is cake !!  It was better than a West Point or Anapolis cake, we know that fro sure.

These are the F-15s that flew over as we started to leave.  Terri and Bruce, you did a great job arranging it.  Even if you didn't, you'll always get credit for it.  Awesome way to end.

USAFA's Cadet newspaper, Academy Spirit, comes out each Friday and is available on-line at the Academy's website.  I have placed a direct link on the Menu List on the left to make it easy.  You will learn alot and feel connected by reading this as there are recaps and pictures of the prior weeks activities.  Very informative.

CLASS OF 2012 PARENTS AND CADETS

"Never Falter, Never Fail"

The Basic Cadet profiles are filling in nicely for the class of 2012.  Please send your Cadets Group and Flite information to me as soon as you know. You'll notice that so far, we have 2 pairs of Basics who are in the same Group & Flite.  That's good.

It will also let the IL. Upperclassmen know who their IL. Basic Cadets are.  It has been relayed to me that one upperclassman saw one of the Basics Profile and saw her on the TZO and gave her a nod and a wink to let her know.  That's what we want.  While the Upperclassmen will follow the traditional treatment of Basic Cadets, they will help when they can.

Also, continue to send pics and information of your Basic to georgeprimm@comcast.net
